Winter Solstice, Yuletide Blessings

It’s Winter Solstice! Although the shortest, darkest day of the year, today begins the return of the Sun. As the cosmic wheel continues to turn, we stop for a powerful moment of reflection. It may feel like a lot of hustle and bustle, it’s really a time of perfect stillness. A beautiful time of both reflection and celebration.

Winter Solstice is the beginning of Yule! One of the oldest winter celebrations around the world. Today begins the 12 days of Yule. Commonly known as the 12 days of Christmas. This year Yule is from December 21, 2021, to January 1, 2022. Yuletide creates space for our inner light to expand and emanate. New visions and ideas are inspired, intentions for the year ahead are born, and bold dreams are forged. Take time to honor your stillness, meditate, spend a quiet moment outside in nature, and breathe it all in.

For our Winter Solstice tradition, we burn a Yule log. We find a round log and adorn it with foliage from the forest, some flowers, and special yule incense. Here on our property, we have Holly, Fir, Redwood, and more. Then we light a fire, say a Winter Solstice blessing and place it on the fire.

Do you have any Winter Solstice celebrations, traditions or rituals you like to do? What are your Winter Solstice traditions?

A Winter Solstice Blessing

May you find peace in the promise of the solstice night

That each day forward is blessed with more light

The cycle of nature, unbroken and true

Brings faith in your soul and well-being to you

Rejoice in the darkness, in the silence find rest

And may the days that follow be abundantly blessed

Blessing from Dark Secrets of the Witch

Wishing you a magical and blessed Winter Solstice. Happy Yule!
