There is magick all over Los Angeles. It’s the land of angels so you have to expect it, naturally. I’ve lived in LA, so I’ve had time plenty of time to explore and find its hidden treasures. Although not quite as hidden as Sword and the Rose in San Francisco, LA most certainly has its own occult treasure, Panpines Magickal Marketplace. It’s one of my favorite places to visit whether I’m living in LA or visiting. Have you ever seen the movie, The Craft? Well, Faruza Balk, star of The Craft, came to know of Panpipes while filming the movie and actually owned it for a while. She sold it in 2001 to Jymie Darling and Vicky Adams.

Panpipes is a small shop situated on Caheunga Street off Hollywood Blvd. with the most enchanting window display. Walking in… well… walking in is like walking into a magickal emporium you might expect to find on a movie set. Behind the counter is the MOST AMAZING apothecary of oils and herbs. When I go there I’m drawn to their magickal oils, and they have a charged magical oil for everything and anything.
I’d like to tell you about my last visit, because I believe it was one of significance to me….
I was in Palm Springs with my mom and we were driving up to San Francisco. I’d been talking for months about visiting Panpipes but even though I had every chance to visit, something would get in my way. This time, I decided nothing would prevent me from going. I detoured our road trip to drive through LA instead of around it and parked near Panpipes. I said to my mom, I need to go, that’s why we are stopping. She said, “OK. I understand.” As I walked down the sidewalk before entering I said to myself, “My intent is success. Success after a very long journey and I want a little bit of faerie added to it.” Easy peasy, right?! And easy peasy it was! When I got inside the witch was helping another customer and there was another customer in front of me, so that made me customer #3. Perfect! Anyhow, as I was waiting I began to look around and in front of me, and to my right were a bunch of small vials filled with magickal potion. I decided to pick one up. They were small vials so until I brought the vial I picked up to my face I had no idea what the label said. Well, the label read Aine. Who is Aine? She is the Queen of the Faeries. Cool, I thought. There’s the bit of faerie I was looking for. I stood there a bit longer and then decided to look at the bars of soap sitting right in front of me and what do I see… The one sitting there, looking me straight in the face, is yellow and says Success! Yes, that is right. As you can see my intension manifested right before my eyes.
Did I need a magickal oil on top of this… probably not, I already had my intension. I still had her make one. I do love their oils, and just before I ordered my new magickal oil, the gentlemen before made a point to let the witch know whatever oil she had made for him last time had worked. Has my oil worked for me? Yes! Indeed it has. In the most amazing, faerie magickal way I could have ever imagined. In fact, its more!
So… that’s my story. I actually have many stories of the magickal oils from Panpipes, and what I can tell you is they work. White magick, black magick, grey magick, low magick, high magick. Whatever magick it is.. check them out when you are in LA. It’s worth the trip.
Panpipes is located at 1641 N. Cahuenga Blvd., Hollywood, CA.
