Faery Magick and Beltane

The cosmic wheel turns yet again.  Beltane marks the midpoint between the Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice. It is a festival of fire that symbolizes the peak of Spring and the coming of Summer. At Beltane, Earth energies are strong and active; life is bursting.

When we celebrated the Spring Equinox, Ostara, new life was just beginning to emerge and seeds are planted. At the beginning of May, there is no denying that the Earth has been reborn and in full bloom. Fields of wild flowers are have blossomed and are abundant. This is a powerful time to acknowledge & celebrate the fertility inherent in all life.

We absolutely love the Faery Magick of Beltane and gather together annually to celebrate in ritual and blessing to honor the Earth! We give our offerings of love and gratitude, honor and stoke our Sacred Fire. Beltane is a time to celebrate all the pleasures in being alive.

Returning to honor the Sun and our Sacred Flame,

Bel, The Bright One

We invoke you, to honor your name.

Bless our hands,

Our heads, our hearts

Source of creation, magick and art.

Traditions, Rituals and Activities

Below are a list of different Beltane activities you can incorporate into your own Beltane celebration.

Flower Meditation:

Select a fresh flower as your focus. Then find a quiet space to meditate with your flower. Using your senses of sight, touch, and smell, experience the flower.  Become one with it and experience your own self in bloom.  Let this flower communion be healing, renewing, inspiring.  Give thanks to the flower.  Then use this flower in your flower circlet, or you can put it in your personal despacho.

Flower Circlets:

This is a festival of flowers and one of its traditions is to create a flower circlet, also known as a flower crown. Flower crowns are a symbol of love, fertility and the circle of life not only for Beltane and Spring, but they also span across many cultures throughout history around the world. In celebration of Beltane let the creation of your flower crown inspire you with a sense of peace, love and beauty.

Maypole:

The dance around the Maypole represents Unity of the divine masculine and feminine, with the pole itself symbolizing the God and the ribbons that encompass it, the Goddess.  While dancing the Maypole, think of your wish or intention and allow it to be fertilized by the collective dance.

Despacho:

A despacho is a prayer bundle or offering. A despacho ceremony is a ritual tradition that comes from Peru. The despacho serves as an expression of gratitude which we find fits well with the Beltane ritual we have prepared.

Similar to a mandala or sacred creation, the despacho holds symbolic elements and your prayers. As the elements are added to the despacho, both your personal and our collective vibration raises. Your despacho becomes your living prayer to bring about energy shifts and healing.

Witch’s Ladder:

Magical weaving and braiding is symbolic of Beltane and also serves as both a creative and meditative exercise. By focusing on the process of braiding or weaving, you can let your mind wander off as your hands do the work.

Take three pieces of string. You may want to choose all one color, or 3 different colors depending on your intention.  As you braid the string, you can weave in little tokens – feathers, charms, shells, beads, mossy branches and other natural objects or symbols that appear before you.

This personal magickal tool will be charged with the magick of Beltane and you can hang it in your home somewhere, bury it on your property, or use for meditation.

Sacred Beltane Fire:

The word ‘Beltane’ originates from the Celtic God ‘Bel’, meaning ‘the bright one’ and the Gaelic word ‘teine’ meaning fire. Together they make ‘Bright Fire’, or ‘Goodly Fire’ and traditionally bonfires were lit to honor the Sun and encourage the support of Bel and the Sun’s light to nurture and protect the community.

Nine Sacred Woods

A fire kindled with 9 sacred woods of your home. For a more traditional Beltane the 9 sacred woods are: apple, birch, fir, grapevine, hawthorn, hazelnut, oak, rowan, willow, and elder.

The May Queen and King:

On Beltane, the May Queen is crowned and bestowed the honor of Queen of the Faeries, Lady of the Flowers. The May Queen is a symbol of the stillness of nature around which everything revolves. She stands for purity, strength and the potential for growth and increase. She is a personification of the energy of the earth.

The May King is the Oak King or Green Man, a symbol of the light and the warmth and protective powers of the Sun.  On Beltane, he falls in love with the May Queen and wins her hand.

Together the May Queen and the May King are symbols of the Sacred Marriage, the union of Earth and Sky.  This union is a brilliant moment in the Wheel of the Year to bring ideas, hopes and dreams into action.

Beltane Waters:

At dawn, for some extra good luck, wash your face with the morning Beltane dew. Embracing the sacred waters of Beltane are said to bring health, luck and beauty.

We hope you have a blessed and magickal Beltane with love, light and faerie dust ♥¨*.✫*¨*.¸¸.♥*¨.✫¨♥¨*.✫*¨

Ostara Blessings To You! Happy Spring!

The cosmic wheel turns yet again. Happy Spring Equinox! Wishing you bright blessings on this magical day!

Today we honor the Goddess Ostara. She is a fertility goddess where the names East and Easter come from. Her time is dawn and her symbols are the rabbit and the egg. Her favorite colors are the spring pastels: green, yellow, pink, baby blue. Take some time today to honor the season. Build and altar for Spring and honor the Spirit of the Goddess. Enjoy some treats of the season. Color and decorate eggs.

Ostara is a perfect point of balance on the Wheel of the Year. Night and Day, Dark and Light are equal, but the year is now Waxing, so at this moment light defeats darkness and we celebrate rebirth, renewal and coming alive.

After a period of great pause and quarantine, we see a glimpse of the abundant fertility to come.  It is time for hope to become action. Energy is expansive and exuberant.

In this moment of great balance take time today to contemplate how you can bring more balance to your life. It is time to be reborn and start a new. May your most radiant and beautiful self shine for all to see! Love, light and faerie dust! ♥¨*.✫*¨*.¸¸.♥*¨.✫¨♥¨*.✫*¨*.¸¸.♥*¨.✫¨.¸¸.♥¨*.✫*¨♥*¨.✫¨.¸¸.♥¨`.✫¨

OSTARA BLESSING

From its winter sleep the earth is awoken,

The cycle of nature, true and unbroken,

The promise of spring, of life, a new start,

To fill you with faith, mind, body and heart.

The perfect wheel of nature keeps spinning,

With proof that an ending is just the beginning.

Rejoice in this season may it fill you with peace,

And may the blessings of nature, for you, never cease.

Winter Solstice Blessings

Photo: Sunset Campout Faerie Ring by Robin Russell

It’s Yule! Celebration, family, joy, generosity are bountiful, but as we enter into the Winter Solstice, we also come to place of great stillness. It’s a sacred and powerful transition point in the year that holds the energy of self-reflection, regeneration, and renewal. It’s the honoring of the Moon Goddess giving birth to the flicking inner light, the spiritual sun.

This is a time where a quiet energy, guides our way to experience the power of stillness; the deep connection to source and a glimpse of what it means to unite the finite with the infinite. It is the experience of the space between thoughts that we seek to find.

In the stillness, you become a magnet which attracts the information that guides your soul. As you deepen your connection, you will move into a constant state of awareness and serenity in life; living and thriving in your higher consciousness.

Make magic this Winter Solstice, may you be blessed with a deepening of your own stillness and connection to your spiritual sun.

Happy Yule! Have a Blessed and Magical Winter Solstice.

Autumn Equinox and Full Moon Meditation with Radha Sangeet Kaur

Fall, the time of bounty and harvesting, will be here soon, and it’s the perfect time to go inward, burn off and clear your way to the unlimited energy reserve within you. When we tap into that source of power we  flourish, bloom and prosper. What intentions and seeds for yourself did you plant in the Spring? Now is the time to reap your bountiful harvest.

Join Radha Sangeet Kaur and Living Fae for a powerful Kundalini Yoga Meditation Workshop to harvest and cultivate our prosperity. In Kundalini Yoga there are meditations and mantras that we can work with to activate this state within ourselves. In this event we will gather in the beautiful sacred Buddha Temple at the San Francisco Buddhist center for Intention Setting, Kundalini Yoga Meditations & Mantras, and a Crystal Bowl & Essential Oil Infused Savasana.

“The best way to explain prosperity is to say it is like a rosebud when it flowers and opens up, and shares its fragrance. That’s the moment, which lasts a few days, when a rose flower is prosperous. When a man or woman is prosperous, it is the fragrance of security, grace, depth, character and truthfulness that a person can share. Like a candle emits light, a human emits prosperity.

…You must know you have an unlimited reserve of energy. Once you invoke your energy, there is nothing that is small in you. All the environments start flying towards you. It’s beautiful.” ~ Yogi Bhajan 12/26/97, 3HO.org

How to Find Magick in Los Angeles

There is magick all over Los Angeles. It’s the land of angels so you have to expect it, naturally. I’ve lived in LA, so I’ve had time plenty of time to explore and find its hidden treasures. Although not quite as hidden as Sword and the Rose in San Francisco, LA most certainly has its own occult treasure, Panpines Magickal Marketplace. It’s one of my favorite places to visit whether I’m living in LA or visiting.  Have you ever seen the movie, The Craft? Well, Faruza Balk, star of The Craft, came to know of Panpipes while filming the movie and actually owned it for a while. She sold it in 2001 to Jymie Darling and Vicky Adams.

Panpipes

Panpipes is a small shop situated on Caheunga Street off Hollywood Blvd. with the most enchanting window display. Walking in… well… walking in is like walking into a magickal emporium you might expect to find on a movie set. Behind the counter is the MOST AMAZING apothecary of oils and herbs. When I go there I’m drawn to their magickal oils, and they have a charged magical oil for everything and anything.

I’d like to tell you about my last visit, because I believe it was one of significance to me….

I was in Palm Springs with my mom and we were driving up to San Francisco. I’d been talking for months about visiting Panpipes but even though I had every chance to visit, something would get in my way. This time, I decided nothing would prevent me from going. I detoured our road trip to drive through LA instead of around it and parked near Panpipes. I said to my mom, I need to go, that’s why we are stopping. She said, “OK. I understand.” As I walked down the sidewalk before entering I said to myself, “My intent is success. Success after a very long journey and I want a little bit of faerie added to it.” Easy peasy, right?! And easy peasy it was!  When I got inside the witch was helping another customer and there was another customer in front of me, so that made me customer #3. Perfect! Anyhow, as I was waiting I began to look around and in front of me, and to my right were a bunch of small vials filled with magickal potion. I decided to pick one up. They were small vials so until I brought the vial I picked up to my face I had no idea what the label said. Well, the label read Aine. Who is Aine? She is the Queen of the Faeries. Cool, I thought. There’s the bit of faerie I was looking for. I stood there a bit longer and then decided to look at the bars of soap sitting right in front of me and what do I see… The one sitting there, looking me straight in the face, is yellow and says Success! Yes, that is right. As you can see my intension manifested right before my eyes.

Did I need a magickal oil on top of this… probably not, I already had my intension. I still had her make one. I do love their oils, and just before I ordered my new magickal oil, the gentlemen before made a point to let the witch know whatever oil she had made for him last time had worked. Has my oil worked for me? Yes! Indeed it has. In the most amazing, faerie magickal way I could have ever imagined. In fact, its more!

So… that’s my story. I actually have many stories of the magickal oils from Panpipes, and what I can tell you is they work. White magick, black magick, grey magick, low magick, high magick. Whatever magick it is.. check them out when you are in LA. It’s worth the trip.

Panpipes is located at 1641 N. Cahuenga Blvd., Hollywood, CA.

Where to Find Magick in San Francisco

Being incarnate faeries servicing the light we’re naturally drawn to crystals and various types of spiritual items you’d find in most new age shops. So when we are out and about, if there is an occult shop, new age shop, crystal shop or trinket shop with faeries inside you can be sure we’ll find it.

Because there are so many, and many of the magickal items we buy come from them, we thought it’d be best to break up the blog into the different cities we visit and to keep the list to include only our favorites. So stay tuned for more cities to come. We’ll also continue to review different shops we find online like White Magick Alchemy that Anne Elizabeth previously blogged about. We might even start to talk about our favorite places to buy faerie fashions but that’s for another time. Today’s post is on some of our favorite magickal stores in San Francisco, CA.

Sword and the Rose
85 Carl St.

This occult store is true to its name because it’s the only one I’ve encountered that is truly in every word occult. And by that I mean it’s even hidden. It’s my favorite store and has been since I first stepped inside over 14 years ago. Back then even with the address and instructions on how to find it I had difficulty, but in the end had some help from a friend. I’ll always remember when I first walked into it because it was as enchanting as the description I had been given. It truly felt magical.

When you enter through the gate you walk into a beautiful courtyard surrounded with bushes, vines and flowers. There is a fountain in the middle and small bench to sit on. In the far back is the store. It looks like a small enchanted hut. And the door is one of those doors cut in half where you can open the top separately. Inside its small, beautifully decorated with Egyptian paintings and has a very choice selection of items. There is small fireplace with comfortable chairs to sit in, and a beautiful altar on the left wall. On the right wall behind the counter are shelves of jars of incense and oils.

Sword and the Rose is known for its special incense. The incense is made by the shop owners. It’s made as a sacred offering to the deity it’s named after. The owner has even traveled to each of the temples of the deities he makes the incense for. If you purchase incense at Sword and the Rose, remember it’s considered an offering to the deity you are working with, so get into consciousness and say a gratitude prayer as you light it.

Sword and the Rose is located on Carl Street right off Cole Street. 85 Carl is through a walkway. There are stores on either side of the walkway and a door at the end. Sometimes it’s open, sometimes it’s not. The sign for the store is above it. You can walk through the doorway even if it’s shut. When you enter the courtyard, you will see the store in the very back.

The Love of Ganesha
1310 Haight St.

The Love of Ganesha is such a lovely store, and the women who work at it are equally as lovely. They are always so very welcoming, warm and sweet; offering you tea and cookies as soon as you enter. The Love of Ganesha contains everything from fun Indonesian clothing, bhindis and tapestries to crystals and incense. The store is always plentiful and packed full of items. Be sure to dig around, there’s lots to choose from. One of my favorite purchases here are our Balinese umbrellas. We use them for our faerie tents.

Inside the store has a beautiful meditation room with altar that is open to the public. It’s at the back of the store on right.

All the profits for The Love of Ganesha go to the Amma foundation.
