Yule Altar ~ Winter Solstice ~ 2011

Happy New Year Faeries! I hope 2012 is treating you well so far! Melanie Dawn recently posted an article about altars and how we do it, so I thought it would be a good time to share with you my favorite shop for candles and magickal supplies.

I was lucky enough to come across White Magick Alchemy browsing on Etsy, but you can also purchase directly from their website:

http://www.etsy.com/shop/WhiteMagickAlchemy?ref=seller_info, www.whitemagickalchemy.com.

I first purchased some lovely blue pillar Litha Faerie candles for my Summer Solstice / Litha altar. These candles smelled divine, of summer flowers and herbs. Perfect for a faerie day and celebration! They were beautifully dusted with silver, shimmery glitter.  If you know about faeries , than you know there’s nothing they like more than glitter. I was delighted that these beauties burned for all three evenings of our celebration.

I also ordered some Litha casting herbs for blessing our sacred ritual fire. I was very impressed with the quality and variety of this herbal blend. It also makes it really easy to bless your fire or cauldron since all the herbs associated with the season are in the mix, so it takes out the guess work on knowing which to herbs to use.

What is really notable about all the products that this gem of a shop offers is the quality is truly exceptional. All the candles and hand poured by the shop owner or her daughters. They use high quality, natural scents, oils, and wax. Everything is made when the moon is right and witch blessed honoring the old ways.

Litha / Summer Solstice ~ 2011For Lamas I got a beautiful candle as a birthday gift for Melanie. This is her special day like Litha is mine so I knew she needed a special candle of her own. It was a beautiful dark purple / wine color and it smelled of ripe berries, and harvest fruits. Again the quality was superb and perfect for the season.

For Samhain I tried out the Between Worlds Pumpkin and Séance candle set for my ancestor altar. They smelled so yummy of pumpkin goodness and spice. Perfect for the fall season. I even found an adorable mini cauldron that is perfect for making a quick altar in the woods because it’s small and easy to pack. It’s so cute and it’s just like a regular size cauldron so you can use it to burn incense on a charcoal disc inside.

For Yule I got two Wassail candles, a Holly King candle, a Yule Faerie candle, and incense, and Yule casting herbs . (The Wassail and the Holly King are the candles in the photo at the top of the page).  Again they did not disappoint. Smelling of traditional Yule and Christmas memories of times past. What is lovely about these candles is that they make your space smell good even when not burning!

There are many Faerie offerings on the site and some of my favorites are the Yule Faerie Incense, any of the Faerie Statues, and the Faerie Dust for leaving offerings for the faeries. I also love the Pink Sugar Faerie Perfume. At first I had to acclimate myself to the scent, but after wearing it for a bit I’m now addicted to this perfume and wear it every day.  It’s a generous portion, comes in an adorable glass bottle. It’s a beautiful shade of pink and it’s loaded with the finest faerie dust, aka: glitter!

I highly recommend the Money Drawing Spell Kit!  It includes everything you require in a handy kit. I can say first had that it really works! The day after I did this spell I got a notice in the mail of unclaimed money of mine from an old insurance payment. They had an old address and had been trying to find me so they could send me a check. I know others swear by it as well!

Really I cannot say enough good things about White Magick Alchemy and it’s wares. The shop owner Nancy, is super sweet and I really feel good about supporting her. Everything is packed with care and you can tell that she puts lots of love and light into her products. Consider joining her mailing list so you find out about new products and sales. If you need any supplies or looking for adornments for your sacred space this would be the first place I would go. You are sure to find something that takes your fancy. You won’t be disappointed and I’m sure you’ll be looking for the next opportunity to order again.

Candlemas is almost here, and since good things can take some time I would order now if you want something special to complete your altar. I know I’ll be looking for the next reason to place a new order and what better than honoring the season, the old traditions and celebrating your spirituality!

How We Create Our Sacred Altars

By far one of our favorite past times is creating altars. There is just something about the energy that transmits through us as we are working on one. When we build an altar, we feel a very deep connection to spirit. It’s the type of feeling where you know you are in a state of 100% authenticity and united with the divine. It’s a very humbling feeling of being in gratitude.

It’s hard to explain the process, as we don’t really have a step-by-step approach to it. Once we begin the process of creation it really takes on its own form. Anne and I are just conduits moving the energy so that spirit can manifest into a physical form. The entire altar is an embodiment of that energy, much like our bodies are to our soul. Yes, we have different pieces that are physical items, but when we are manifesting an altar those are the pieces that spirit is telling us it needs in order to grow in its full form. Sometimes those pieces are from nature, like flowers and crystals, and sometimes they are a statue of an actual goddess. Each piece has an intension and meaning behind it. They serve as the symbols that tell the story.

Anne and I have created many altars and sacred spaces over the years. Too many to even count! In the beginning they were simple. In fact my very first one had a black velvet cloth, incense for the air/east, a crystal and flowers for earth/north, a chalice for water/west, a wand for fire/south, and in the center I placed a candle that I would light for spirit. This was at the very beginning of my occult studies. I was building the foundation by learning the basics and identifying items to represent each of the elements. As I grew stronger in my foundation and more confident in my path I began to experiment by creating altars out of items I might not have considered before because I could see the symbolism in them. Then Anne and I started working together, and the beauty that seemed to manifest through us together took on a whole other form. The more we worked together the more we learned to allow our altars to evolve into their own manifestation. It went from placing things on, sometimes way too many things, to really understanding the energy that was moving through us and what it wanted to become.

For the bigger ones we create we usually start with a vision or theme. Typically it’s sent to us in some type of message; often in a dream. Sometimes it’s based on a deity, other times we focus on a particular faith or type of magic. Then everything seems to fall into place after that with the items that are selected to create it. Some of them we look for months just trying to find the right piece, some we design ourselves, other times the piece we need manifests right in front of our eyes as we are building the altar.

For the smaller at home ones, we seem to focus on the deity and add items around its statue. If it’s a more personal altar, one with an intension of something we want to invoke into our lives we find items of a personal nature, add symbols that represent that, and also add affirmations. For example, if I felt like I needed to develop more compassion I would put Kwan Yin [the female Buddha] in the center, and surround her in rose quartz. I would also add white flowers, white candles, and write affirmations for myself about being compassionate. An altar doesn’t have to have such a specific intension as that though. It could simply just be a representation of your connection to spirit and whatever items you feel drawn to the most to represent that. That way when you take the time out of your day to focus on it you can connect with the energy.

If you are interested in building your own altar, and aren’t sure where to start, here are a few basic steps you can follow to get into consciousness.

• Find a place in your home or yard that you feel has calm soothing energy. Try not to put it in a place where others might want to put things on it. People can often be somewhat unconscious of your altar and unknowingly put things on it that carry their energy like keys, drinks, etc.
• You might want to even consider putting a small one in your entranceway, but this typically is best if its an additional one to your main altar. I find this type of altar best serves as a simple symbol to whomever enters your home that you are entering into a sacred space; your sacred space.
• Cleanse the energy. Burn a small amount of white sage over your altar. Or if you can find some Palo Santo wood it’s a wonderful tool for cleansing and purifying. It has been used since ancient times by the Incas and the scent is divine.
• If you have a nice enough table top or shelf you can simply put your items on it. Anne and I like to use really beautiful material. We buy it specifically with the altar in mind; everything from color, to the type of material.
• Now light some incense or if you are adverse to smoke then use a burner and light some oils. Frankincense is great to use when building altars. It’s the one we typically use. Although we’ve used everything from Nag Champa to Rose Cross. Whatever scent you feel drawn to the most is the best one to use. You could even just continue using the sage or Palo Santo.
• You’re ready! Stay centered, remember to breath and listen to the quiet voice within. Let spirit guide you to design the rest.

Here are some images of altars Anne and I have designed over time, along with others we have encountered along our path. We hope they inspire you.

How to Perform Ritual for Mother Earth on Summer Solstice

The Pachamama, Mother Earth, offering is a collection of natural substances representing that which we want to purify and manifest in our lives. Pachamama loves everything from herbs and flowers, to crystals, coins, and shells. As long as it can be burned without harming the environment it is considered an acceptable offering.

We do the Pachamama, Mother Earth, ritual every year as way to bestow our gratitude, love and respect for the earth and all its creatures, as well as those from other realms like the faeries, our spirit guides, and ascended masters. We give our thanks for the blessings we have received and lessons we have learned.

Through this ritual we show Pachamama our devotion to serving and protecting the earth. As a thank you for our dedication in service to her she grants us our manifestations [if she so chooses].

1. Sage yourself with some of the ritual sage provided. It’s a good idea to kneel before the altar. Ground yourself – feel yourself rooted to the earth.

2. Take 3 deep breaths

3. Tell Pachamama how grateful you are for her and feel it in your heart.
Say: Dear Pachamama, Mother Earth, I am so grateful for the blessings you have bestowed upon me. Thank you for your natural beauty. I have so much love and respect for the earth and all its creatures.

4. Select an offering from one of the selections and hold it in your hand.

5. Next – Ask Pachamama to purify that which no longer serves you. Perhaps it is something that distracts you from fulfilling something that is your true heart’s desire. [By purifying and transmuting that which no longer serves you, you clear the way for your manifestation].
Say: Dear Pachamama, Mother Earth, it is my will to purify and transmute (state your intention). Please accept this offering. It is filled with my heart-felt thanks and gratitude.

6. Place your offering in the pile. Remember to breathe!

7. Select another offering and hold it in your hand close to your heart. It could be one or a mixture. Pick ones that best symbolize your manifestation.

8. Next – Ask Pachamama to manifest something in your life. It’s always best to request your true heart’s desire. Be sure to choose only ONE thing, and be as detailed and specific as you can be. See yourself experiencing your manifestation like a movie, and feel the joy, love, & excitement around that. Be sure to fill your heart with love as you visualize your manifestation.
Say: Dear Pachamama, Mother Earth, it is my will to (state your manifestation). Please accept this offering. It is filled with my true heart’s desire and deepest gratitude.

9. Place your offering in the pile. Remember to breathe!

10. Take a deep breath and when you are ready you can get up and join the ritual circle. If it is early on in the day, before the ritual takes place, be sure to sage yourself before leaving.
